No one should go without, but not everyone can reach a food bank. Where there is provision it can be fragmented and buried on websites that are hard to navigate.
Requests for help can literally get buried by groups chats and feeds full of cat pictures. Some services will take information from service users via unsecured means like email, social media, instant messaging and it can be missed without ending up on a managed system.
Our charity's app connects up as much support as possible so that people can make a simple request for help that goes to securely to organisations nearby and relevant to their needs. Where help like food delivery doesn't exist, we've set up our own volunteer groups to help.
We use a hybrid model that takes in the best available data on poverty processed through the best available technology, alongside community connections to identify people facing poverty in a way allows us to understand problems at the macro and individual level simultaneously. We look for gaps in processes and services to understand where we can support.
Through our going network of charities and some of our own, we seek to support people with their immediate needs using a model that allows organisations to share the tasks rather than duplicate efforts, allowing more people to be helped than would otherwise be possible.
Whilst we often start at the point where people are needing a food parcel, food is just the wedge into other issues that are underlying their needs. Understanding those problems is often the way to make real change and help people out of poverty, often by connecting people with services that can address sometimes complex individual needs.
